ArtsMemphis has provided $82M in grants and served as the primary funder, convener, and connector for the Memphis arts community since 1963. ArtsMemphis has a $20M endowment which supports a portion of operational costs, enabling almost every dollar contributed to benefit the arts community. In 2020, ArtsMemphis invested $2.8M in 71 arts groups and hundreds of artists and elevated its role in helping the arts sector navigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. 


About the Position:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will report to the President & CEO and will lead and execute the organization’s financial strategy. The CFO will serve as a key leader and representative of the organization. The CFO will be responsible for financial administration, business planning, budgeting, and human resources functions. The CFO will lead the finance and endowment committees of the Board of Directors.
While all employees are asked to make broad contributions of time and expertise to support the mission of ArtsMemphis, assist team members, and help with the execution of events, the CFO’s primary responsibilities are outlined below.



Organizational Strategy
• Partner with the CEO and COO on overall operations and strategy; provide recommendations based on financial analysis and projections.
• Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management.
• Work with CEO & Development team to align financial management with short- and long-term revenue goals. 
• Provide oversight to revenue management and forecasting.
• Partner with the finance committee to review and discuss budgets, financial statements, regulatory filings, and accounting issues. 
• Engage with the endowment committee around investment decisions, endowment campaigns, and the use of endowment funds. 
• Assist COO and Grants & Initiatives team in continuous improvement and evaluation of grant-making process as it relates to financial assessment. 
Financial and Operational Management
• Oversee and execute the organization’s accounting function, ensuring records are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 
• Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies. 
• Lead the budgeting process and oversee the implementation of budgets.
• Prepare and communicate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for the staff, finance committee and Board of Directors.
• Manage cash flow and forecasting.  
• Coordinate all audit and tax preparation activities.
• Ensure ArtsMemphis is compliant with federal, state and local requirements and filings.
• Own risk management for the organization.
• Oversee payroll and other HR functions.
• Manage all banking and investment management relationships.  
• Negotiate contracts and oversee primary vendor relationships.
• Develop and manage direct report(s), including Development and Operations Coordinator.
• Participate in annual grantee review. Assist with monitoring financial reporting and metrics for grantees.
• Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred. Master’s degree a plus.
• 10+ years of experience managing the accounting for a mid-size company or non-profit (minimum budget of $4MM).   
• Experience executing the accounting function.
• Investment management experience.
• Non-profit board experience preferred if coming from the for-profit sector. 
• Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge database experience a plus. 
• Strong analytical skills and experience examining, developing and recommending financial, HR and other internal policies and procedures.   
• Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and multi-task.  
• Team player who is energetic, flexible, collaborative, proactive and has a desire to work in a creative environment. 
• Experience managing a team in a supervisory capacity and commitment to developing team members.   
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.  
• Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written forms. 
• Interest in being a key player in the future of ArtsMemphis.   
• Working automobile, valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
• Ability to work in an open and collaborative office space. 
This position is full-time. Salary commensurate with experience. A competitive benefits package including insurance, 401(k) plan with a company match up to 4% and a generous vacation/holiday schedule will be offered. 
While typical work hours are 9:00am-5:00p, Monday-Friday, employee must be willing to handle flexible hours including occasional work on nights and weekends.
