MEMPHIS, TN - (April 4, 2017) – ArtsMemphis will present its 7th Annual Emmett O’Ryan Award for Artistic Inspiration at a ceremony this Thursday, April 6th, at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. The “Emmett” is given each year to a local artist who has demonstrated creative and civic leadership within the Memphis arts community. The winner receives a $10,000 cash award.
The award is named in honor of Emmett O’Ryan, an avid art collector who was a founding board member of Metropolitan Bank. The winning artist is selected by a committee composed of Metropolitan Bank associates, members of ArtsMemphis’ Artist Advisory Council, and representatives of Mr. O’Ryan’s family. The three finalists are:
“Emmett O’Ryan was a much-beloved and respected member of the Metropolitan Bank family,” said Phillip May, Market CEO, Metropolitan Bank Memphis. “This award is a wonderful way to honor Mr. O’Ryan’s memory and his contributions to the bank and to the arts while supporting the work of an outstanding artist in our community.”
While Metropolitan will continue their longtime commitment to the award, they are partnering, this year, with the law firm, Butler Snow. “We are excited to have Butler Snow join us as a partner in the event,” May noted, “as this program has grown over the past seven years to become one of the most significant awards for local visual artists in Memphis.”
“ArtsMemphis is thrilled to see this kind of collaborative sponsorship from leaders in the business community,” said ArtsMemphis President & CEO Elizabeth Rouse. “Having two such generous sponsors in Metropolitan Bank and Butler Snow means a great deal to the local artists that we serve.”
