MEMPHIS, TN (November 1, 2016) – ArtsMemphis, in partnership with ArtsFirst, has turned the spotlight on teachers for their new exhibit, After School Special, curated by Nikii Richey. The exhibit features 50 pieces of art submitted by 38 art teachers from the Memphis area. A selection committee chose the original works of art after a call for artists among all Shelby County children’s art teachers.
“This show is such an exciting opportunity for teachers who don’t get to show their art very often,” said Briarcrest art teacher Jenna Fergus. “We take so much time to encourage our students and now ArtsMemphis is encouraging us!”
Local teachers being featured include Miranda Bavier, Shelley Bolton, Rebecca Bowers, Lori Brown, Carol Buchman, Emily Gray Chambers, Jocelyn Collins, Bridget Cornelius, Tony Davenport, Shannon Donovan, Robin Durden, Andrew Dycus, Jenna Fergus, Amanda Galbraith, Jessica Gaston, Adam Hunt, Stuart Janssen, Margaret R Jessie, Rebekah Laurenzi, Kelly Lindsey, Janis McCarty, Carrol McTyre, Whendy Merryman, Nicole Miller, Paul Miller, Valerie Mills, Robyn Nickell, Tracy Poole, Erica Qualy, Kerrie Rogers, Juan Rojo, Jody Stokes-Casey, Kristina Taylor, Amanda Tutor, Meghean Warner, Shamekimin R Weddle, Meredith Wilson
The artists’ reception is Friday, December 2 from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm at the ArtsMemphis gallery, 575 S. Mendenhall. These special works of art will continue to be on display at the gallery until January 31. The gallery is open Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
