Nothing makes us happier at ArtsMemphis than seeing our grantees team up in innovative ways. For example, on the afternoon of May 9th, players from the Memphis Symphony Orchestra are performing as part of Creative Aging's Senior Arts Series for older adults. And later that same day, Beale Street Caravan is offering special tickets to their I Listen to Memphis film series Launch Party for members of Indie Memphis. Vive Collaboration!
Here are some additional details about the events and organizations noted above:
Creative Aging is dedicated to bringing music and the arts to older adults where they live and gather. Their Senior Arts Series takes place monthly on Wednesday afternoons at Theatre Memphis (630 Perkins Extended). Tickets are available at the door for $5.00 (cash or check only), or online by clicking here (service fee applies).
The Senior Arts Series performance on Wednesday, May 9, features Creative Aging artists The Side Street Steppers, playing rare and popular music from the 1920s and 30s and a Memphis Symphony Orchestra String Quartet, with musicians from across the globe. Limited handicapped seating is available.
Founded in 1953 as the Memphis Sinfonietta the Memphis Symphony Orchestra (MSO) exists to enrich the lives of our diverse community through exceptional music and dynamic programs.
For more than 20 years, Beale Street Caravan has been capturing and exporting the sounds of Memphis and the Delta region. It is our mission to celebrate the culture of our region by sharing our music with the world. BSC is the most widely distributed blues radio program in the world, attracting more than 2.4 million listeners each week.
The "I Listen to Memphis" film series launch party will take place on May 9, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM, at The Rec Room (3000 Broad Avenue). It will feature live music from Marcella & Her Lovers and Cedric Burnside. I Listen to Memphis is about Memphis music today, the musicians who make it, and the places and culture that fuel it. Indie Memphis members are eligible to RSVP for up to 2 guests to the party.
Now entering its 21st year. Indie Memphis is one of the city's core arts institutions, connecting and inspiring indie filmmakers and film-lovers through the unique creative landscape that is the home of the Blues and the birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll.
