Nothing about Cambria’s beginning was very strategic. “It just kind of happened,” says Cambria President and CEO Marty Davis. It all began when Marty Davis’ friend put him onto this new investment opportunity. The Davis’s studied the opportunity and ultimately Mark Davis, Marty’s father, made a personal investment in a northern Minnesota business start-up in the late ‘90s. They loved the company’s technology and quartz product, but didn’t know much more than that about the operation. But taking risks was something the Davis family was familiar with. Entrepreneurial instinct is a family legacy that began with Stan and Mark Davis, who owned small creameries that eventually lead to the formation of Davisco Foods International, an international leader in the dairy industry.

My design philosophy is simple: You should love your home. Your home is a reflection of your life: who you are, where you have been, and how you live. My goal is to take all of the parts and pieces of your life and translate it into a space you love, surrounded by things you love, with soft comfortable fabrics and furnishings that serve as a beautiful backdrop for your life. From conception to completion, I take the time to listen to my clients, understand their vision and deliver a product that they will truly enjoy for a lifetime.

Garden District, formerly John Hoover flowers, began in 1995 in a charming clapboard house in Midtown Memphis. Our shop was named in part because of the owners’ love for New Orleans and in part because of its proximity to both Central Gardens and Chickasaw Gardens here in Memphis. In 2003, after outgrowing the space, we moved to our current location in the heart of East Memphis. Our current showroom is a mix of contemporary and traditional and features a glass storefront, soaring ceilings and plenty of space to display a beautiful mix of flowers, plants, antiques, books and containers.

Lindley Martens grew up surrounded by history, culture and mother nature. Living in wooded, rural New Jersey in a circa 1716 home with a lake was a young artist’s dream. Frequent trips to the Metropolitan, MOMA, the theater and all that New York City had to offer also gave her an appreciation of the arts and culture at a young age. Moving back to her Memphis birthplace with her family at the age of ten, she completed her education here, and attended Memphis College of Art. Lindley also studied fashion design at Rhode Island School of Design. Lindley’s background in art and design eventually led her back to New York to work in fashion design with Ralph Lauren early in her career. Returning to Memphis, the transition from fashion design to interior design was a natural. Before founding LINDLEY MARTENS DESIGN in 2010, Lindley spent thirteen years working in the interior design business in Memphis, first for Rogers Menzies and later for Shea Design. Buying trips in both the US and abroad gave Lindley the opportunity to shop for her clients and create spaces for them that were tailored specifically to each individual or family. Lindley’s deep-seated love of art helps her to achieve a refined and inviting feel while narrating the story of each room’s distinct personality and retaining a sense of connectedness to the whole. LINDLEY MARTENS DESIGN is pleased to serve clients both locally and nationally.

I am Carmeon Hamilton, the brawn and brains behind Nubi Interiors. I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 2008 with my Bachelor of Science in Interior Design – science (instead of fine arts), because I was a naive little college freshman that thought she wanted to be a physical therapist. But, thanks to the encouragement of a very special friend, I changed my major and embarked on a career that helps me fulfill my purpose. My career started in 2008 in the construction and design department of a corporate healthcare company. I had the pleasure of designing the interiors of physical therapy clinics, assisted living facilities and other senior living environments. Unfortunately, my department was down-sized and I was let go in August of 2012. The experience gained from that company is one that I’ll forever be grateful for. But, it made me realize that my destiny and well-being should never be in the hands of others...hence, the birth of Nubi Interiors. Why “Nubi”? Well, Nubi is the nickname that was given to me by my husband. It’s actually short for Nubian – as in Nubian queen or princess. And it’s actually my husband’s constant love and support that motivated me to bring my dream to life. Naming my company Nubi Interiors is just my reminder that there is someone, other than myself that believes in me. Beauty can be found in any and all things. And my purpose is to help others find that beauty in the things that surround them every day. Carmeon’s vignette is generously sponsored by Mr. J. W. Gibson II.

Warner comes by his international sensibility honestly: an Air Force family, the Moores were stationed in Asia, Europe, the East Coast and the Deep South. From each region, Warner developed an eye for the broadest influences. When he had a retail shop, it was not unusual to make four buying trips to Europe in a year’s time, and he still favors French antiques. “I like to think I design elegance with comfort,” he says. “I’ll blend an Old World look with contemporary elements to take the edge off. I never want a room to look like a museum.” Natural materials like shells and branch coral, stone and glass, metals and Old Masters co-exist seamlessly in Warner’s rooms. His designs have been featured in Veranda, Traditional Home and Southern Living.
