Lounge Reflections

Gone are the days of staying with one metal. Mixing golds and silvers, once frowned upon, are happening for a reason! Cool and warm can easily  coexist when you unite treasured finds from the past and new finds in intriguing art and funky lighting. I want and need them to blend in harmony with one another. This is easily accomplished when you thoughtfully blend your favorite things with a neutral friendly color. My color of choice  just happens to be blush. Don’t forget to add floral harmony, great… for the senses. My design approach hopes to evoke a romantic, livable retreat.

Modern Living Room

Our vignette was designed to create a sense of escape, representing simple luxury. With summer approaching, and retreating on my mind, laid back experiences from Smith Lake, AL and Alys Beach, FL were key inspirations.

Blu D'or Interiors

Leigh Montgomery

Leigh Montgomery credits her love of beautiful interiors and furnishings to influences from her mother and grandmother while growing up in a small farming community in Arkansas.  "I think they taught me to appreciate quality and how to live comfortably among beautiful but functional pieces.  I remember countless trips to antique and home furnishing stores with my mother.  At the time, I didn't love it, but I suppose the affinity for beautiful furnishings, fabrics and art rubbed off on me during the process."

Leigh, recounts that while traveling with her first job just after graduating from the University of Arkansas, she fell in love with a vanity she spotted at one of her favorite antique stores.  "I just had to have that piece," she remembers,' so I bought it and paid on it for 6 months."  She still had that piece today.

The mother of three small daughters, Leigh, understands the need for interiors to be practical as well as beautiful.  Child friendly fabrics and versatile, comfortable styles fill her personal spaces.  She also has a passion for original art, and is discerning about the pieces she places in her home.  "Just the right piece of art can define the room's personality'< she says.  Her basic design philosophy incorporates elements that ultimately achieve a look the embodies casual elegance and a comfortable lifestyle.

"I love what I do.  I want my clients to love their homes.  I want their individuality to be evident in their choices.  My approach to assisting them is to encourage honesty about their wants, needs and budget.  I can then take that information and help them aquire an environment that is both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing."

Family Room

I knew right away that the Schumacher fabric ‘Persian Lancers’ would be the perfect springboard for our design. If there is one fabric that embodies who I am as a designer it’s this one! I love that it feels traditional, yet the fresh color palette of greens and blues allows me to pair it with modern or transitional pieces. We’ve chosen light upholstery in relaxed, comfortable styles and incorporated interesting art and accessories to pull it all together. We hope that you love the space as much as much as we do!

Industrial Vintage Chic

The Exceed team approached this project using one of our favorite clients and her unique filter of the world to tackle the challenge of a southern loft bedroom. The stage is set from the textural mixed-media accent wall. White Stackstone, reclaimed wood, and white glass work together to create the installation. Spotlighting the center is a deep, lipstick-red, European floating cabinet with signature steel door.

Natural tones reflected in the custom reclaimed wood mirror and bench contrast the bold, chic French Quarter Damask wallpaper and lively vintage chair. Fine art and old southern roots come together in the unique black and white photograph of a classic downtown Memphis carriage horse. The ambience of the room is created with signature lighting and the modern chic accent pieces. All of these elements are anchored by Industrial nightstands and the custom king bed, created using Cambria’s Clareanne quartz.

Erick New

Owner & Director of Opperations

Garden District, formerly John Hoover flowers, began in 1995 in a charming clapboard house in Midtown Memphis. Our shop was named in part because of the owners' love for New Orleans and in part because of its proximity to both Central Gardens and Chickasaw Gardens here in Memphis.

In 2003, after outgrowing the space, we moved to our current location in the heart of East Memphis.  Our current showroom is a mix of contemporary and traditional and features a glass storefront, soaring ceilings and plenty of space to display a beautiful mix of flowers, plants, antiques, books and containers.

Garden Folly

Our inspiration is an urban garden. We are creating a private oasis that could exist in a confined space such as a rooftop or the area between two buildings using elements of classic garden design along with Japanese and mid-century references.

Vignettes Interior Design

Sam Henderson

I began my design career in 1987 when my sister and I opened a drapery workroom.  That quickly progressed into full time interior design.  In 1990 I went to work for Donomarc Interiors.  Donovan Goff was the principal designer and gave me the many tools I needed to move into my own business.  I and a partner purchased The Flower Shop in West Memphis in 1995.  I ran my design business out of there until 1997 when I opened Trimmings.  Trimmings was a full service design firm and Antique shop. I received my Allied ASID (American Society of Interior Design) designation in 1998.  Mike Lawing and I ran Trimmings until 2002 when we open Designer Services. In 2005 we opened Vignettes as the retail side of Designer Services.  We continue today as a design firm and retail shop.  There are no projects to big or small when it comes to the services we offer. We have worked locally, nationally and internationally.  We bring a fresh approach to living in an esthetically pleasing environment.

Mike Lawing

Mike Lawing, co-owner of Vignettes, comes to the interior design business with over 20 years of experience in both residential and commercial design. A Memphis native, Mike has worked his way up the ladder to achieve his success. Beginning his journey working retail in Richmond, Virginia and Washington, D.C., it instilled the important skills of merchandising and esthetics. These traits came full circle when opportunities of designing store interiors presented themselves in Richmond, Washington D.C., and Maryland. The draw of home was too much, and Mike found himself back in Memphis for his permanent residence and career path, bringing with him a cultivated body of work rich in accessorizing and color. His client base is expansive, ranging from Memphis to Atlanta, Birmingham, and South Florida. With so many different life experiences, cultures, and styles to draw from, there truly is no job he and his team cannot deliver.

York Binkley Interior Design

Ashley York Binkley

Ashley's penchant for design began at an early age. As a toddler, she was bribed to resist sucking her thumb not with candy or other treats: but with what would come to be one of her first design elements. . . Shoes.  Her first experiences with color, form and design were through materials and textiles that she could reach with her little hands: clothing, shoes and hair ribbons.  Her sense of style was evident through her deliberate choices of color and fit, tailoring each outfit down to every small detail.  Her beginnings with textiles and fabric choices led to a certain decisiveness which would become her defining character as a designer.

The daughter of a Cuban American,  Ashley grew up in Tennessee and then studied Interior Design at Auburn University where she experienced exposure to all the design elements necessary for a full scale architectural design project.  She completed her design studies abroad in Ariccia,  Italy which continued to train her eye to value, beauty and details.  From there she went on to work with Marc-Michaels Interior Design in Winter Park, Florida (ranked as the number one Residential Design firm in the US for many years), Richard Keith Langham Inc. in New York, New York, and Rhea Crenshaw Interiors in Memphis, Tennessee.  In 2014 she started the York Binkley firm.  Married to real estate developer Les Binkley, she makes her home in Tennessee where she and Les, both passionate about design, seek out inspiration through a wide variety of avenues which continually refine their eye and appreciation for beauty.

She has a sense of color and style that is innate.   Her confidence in choosing the right design elements for an interior space comes yes, from her wide range of educational experiences, but mostly from an untaught sense of style and love for aesthetics.  Her attention to details enables her projects to become comfortable well appointed rooms that transcend current style trends and become timeless.  Of course, we all appreciate well executed and well balanced spaces, Ashley's work can be defined as sophisticated yet comfortable, casual yet refined, and out of the ordinary but somewhat familiar.  Ashley's versatility and openness in her design approach allow clients the freedom to collaborate with her and create spaces catered to her clients personality and lifestyle while respecting the architecture and history of the home.

atelier

noun  ate·lier  \,a-təl-yā\
