What began as the “Little Theatre” in 1920 has grown into one of the oldest community theatres in the country, Theatre Memphis, with a mission to provide outstanding theatrical experiences to enrich the lives of audiences and the community. Theatre Memphis presents up to twelve productions each season on two stages. As a community theatre they engage more than 750 volunteers each year, who do everything from starring in productions to ushering audiences, set construction and costume design.
Situated on a two-acre campus in East Memphis, Theatre Memphis will launch their second century of service, pulling back the curtain to reveal enlarged and improved facilities to celebrate their centennial season in 2020-2021. Theatre Memphis will then close until next season to improve the quality of their patrons’ experience with an expanded lobby and stage, a covered entrance, enlarged restrooms and new audio systems for hearing impaired guests, among many other improvements.
With a string of sell-out productions, there’s still time to experience Theatre Memphis before their facility closes for renovation in January 2020. Ruthless! The Musical is showing now through November 23. A family favorite, A Christmas Carol has been a Theatre Memphis tradition for 42 years.
