Circuit Playhouse Inc., which includes Playhouse on the Square and The Circuit Playhouse, is celebrating their 50th Anniversary this year.
While the Mid-South region is fortunate to boast numerous theatres, no other is like Circuit Playhouse. As the Mid-South’s only resident company of professional performers, their cutting edge shows challenge audiences and speak to the intelligence, diversity, and soul of our community.
In addition to their mainstage shows, Circuit Playhouse offers numerous educational opportunities for people of all ages. Their Theatre Education programming has been inspiring and educating tens of thousands of young people across the Mid-South for 33 years, reaching a diverse range of participants in terms of age, ethnicity, social standing, and physical abilities.
Circuit Playhouse has led the way in starting many new arts programs like ArtsAccess and Pay What You Can. And when they saw a need in our community, Playhouse on the Square was the first organization to develop an LGBTQ arts program with offerings like their Queer Youth Theatre group, Q&A.
In February 2019, they hosted the 24th United Professional Theatre Auditions. These national auditions attract more than 1,000 registered actors and production personnel and over 100 professional theatre companies from across the country. Estimates indicate that the event has a nearly $600,000 annual economic impact on the Memphis community.
Boasting numerous theatre awards and a long-standing history in the community, Circuit Playhouse serves as a driving force in the Memphis Arts Community.
