Although very little is left of the original play, this adaptation is extremely well done. There is rather a lot of shouting, but the funny parts are hilarious, the serious parts are absorbing and thoughtful, and the music is wonderful. I don't know that I agree with the writer/director's conclusion that his play is really about the fulfillment of human potential, but I'm not sure it matters -- there's a real banquet in this play, when it comes to food for thought. I really enjoyed the Auction last year. There was a great variety of art auctioned in both the silent and live auctions. I love the idea of the community supporting local art work such as the train trestle with replicas of historic houses. Also, it appeared there was a lot of recognition given to the Artists who donated. Super event...look forward to going again this year. Collapse

Assume this student was in the opening night audience, a performance attended by a group of high school students from New Orleans who pretty much dominated the evening with rowdy laughter at everything of a dramatic or sexual nature. Hats off to the excellent cast who weren't thrown by this behavior and played the show as rehearsed and directed. This last great work from perhaps American's greatest playwright certainly isn't being performed for laughs, it's being played for the heart and truth and dispair Williams wrote. Since the writer chose to post anonymously, I can't imagine the origin or cause for such mean-spirited and inaccurate comments but they are certainly in direct contrast to the outstanding response the production has received from other audience members. I usually love the plays at Theatre Memphis but this one only has brief moments where it is good. I expected high drama but most of the audience laughed a lot at this performance and it seemed the cast was playing it for laughs. I was very disappointed. The set was amazing but the acting was poor indeed. Collapse

I would so much like to support the idea of introducing art therapy in Uganda especially in the war ravaged areas of Northern Uganda where i happen to come from.I remember doing art therapy with Mutebi Fred and also visiting Hope north.During these interaction i was able to learn a lot from these children especially the former child soldiers. Most of the girls are raped, defiled and the boys have killed and this remains in their minds, and only art can make the change we would like to see in us,since these are the future leaders who are being ignored by the community. They need protection and care in order to re-establish normalcy and be part of the global community. However, those who come up to volunteer and help these children should stand by their objectives and avoid corruption when they get assistance from others to support their community based organizations.I got so touched and made my own illustrations and paintings after researching on Art therapy in the north, topic:WAR Collapse

Known around the world for its blues and rock and roll, Memphis has a recognizable special vibe. ArtsMemphis exists to nurture this unique character and to magnify the city’s creative voice. We are a 45-year-old arts funding organization (the sixth largest in the United States), which provides annual operating and project support to 23 arts groups and administers some 150 additional grants on a year to year basis. The ArtsMemphis tagline is “your support matters” and indeed it does. As major fundraisers, grant-makers and arts promoters in the city, ArtsMemphis contributed more than $4 million to the Memphis arts community in 2007, and it is a fact that 95 cents of every dollar raised in our annual campaign is directed to our funded organizations. ArtsMemphis builds partnerships among artists, arts groups, donors, educators and culture lovers throughout the city and region. Recognizing that a lively arts scene has a major economic impact and is essential to the quality of life in Memphis, ArtsMemphis is encouraging the entire community to interact with the arts like never before. The current enhanced website with its expanded calendar of events has been introduced with that goal in mind.
