Urban Art - Dave Wells Community Center - Anthony Lee and Vitus Shell
In 2006, a new playground was built at the Dave Wells Community Center at 915 Chelsea Avenue in District 7. This new addition allowed for an art enhancement to be made for the area. The forty-one public art murals by NIA Artist Collecitve members Shalishah Franklin, Edwin McSwine, frank d. robinson, and Vitus Shell, take their themes from the surrounding neighborhood. The designs for these murals were created by each of the four artists and later digitally printed onto the ceramic tiles that were installed on the building. Children from Guthrie Elementary as well as other residents of the area were included in the project.
