02/11/12- 02/12/12	Basic Blacksmithing ll Metal Museum Basic Blacksmithing ll Presented by Metal Museum at Metal Museum February 11-February 12, 2012 This class will focus on a “grill” using various types of scrolls such as ribbon, fish tail and snub-end. The grill will be assembled and fitted using the traditional techniques of punching, forge welding, riveting and collaring. Tuition covers tools and materials. Students must provide their own safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves. Limit 10 per session

The workshop will consist of lecture, demonstration and hands-on-activities. Each student will make at least two molds and pour one casting in aluminum. Students will make a variety of forged steel flowers suitable for indoor or outdoor display. Students will learn safe and efficient use of blacksmith tools while developing basic skills at the forge. Students will forge a hammer and an eye punch. You will learn skills in power hammer operation, bottom tooling, riveting, team striking, hammer control and basic metallurgy. Tuition covers tools and materials. Students must provide their own safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves. Limit to 8 per session Prerequisite: Basic Blacksmithing l and 2

The instructor will start the class with the basic skills of how to make a punch and a drift. Then students will take this knowledge to create a unique bottle opener using additional techniques like forging, twisting and filing.
