    Cultural Arts For Everyone

Cultural Arts For Everyone (CAFE`), incorporated in 2000, provides culturally diverse artistic experiences that enrich the lives of school age children and their families. Its purposes are to (1) provide education and cultural awareness for the underserved, including low and moderate-income communities; (2) promote artistic excellence that inspires community audiences; (3) build collaborations and partnerships that (a) develop culturally and ethnically diverse audiences and (b) provide access to quality artistic programs. During its first six seasons, CAFE` has presented more than 65 outstanding, culturally diverse music, dance and theatrical performances to more than 65,000 Memphians, half of whom were students, ages 5 to 18. Our performance series has consistently drawn a more culturally, ethnically, racially, and socio-economically diverse crowd of individuals. CAFE` was founded to meet a growing local demand for a culturally diverse selection of performing arts and to present audiences with world-class artists and performers who are ethnic minorities. Each year we work hard to enhance the quality of life in our community by presenting an exciting season of dance, music and theatre. Past performances have included: Al Jarreau, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Sweet Honey in the Rock, John Amos in Haley's Comet, Nai Ni Chen Dance Company, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Boys Choir of Harlem, Ballet Hispanico, Regina Carter, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Fisk Jubilee Singers and CeCe Winans.

Known around the world for its blues and rock and roll, Memphis has a recognizable special vibe. ArtsMemphis exists to nurture this unique character and to magnify the city’s creative voice. We are a 45-year-old arts funding organization (the sixth largest in the United States), which provides annual operating and project support to 23 arts groups and administers some 150 additional grants on a year to year basis. The ArtsMemphis tagline is “your support matters” and indeed it does. As major fundraisers, grant-makers and arts promoters in the city, ArtsMemphis contributed more than $4 million to the Memphis arts community in 2007, and it is a fact that 95 cents of every dollar raised in our annual campaign is directed to our funded organizations. ArtsMemphis builds partnerships among artists, arts groups, donors, educators and culture lovers throughout the city and region. Recognizing that a lively arts scene has a major economic impact and is essential to the quality of life in Memphis, ArtsMemphis is encouraging the entire community to interact with the arts like never before. The current enhanced website with its expanded calendar of events has been introduced with that goal in mind.
