    Description:
In this dark, bitter commentary on modern American life cloaked in the form of a surrealist western, Johnny Depp portrays accountant William Blake, who is on the run after committing murder. Mortally wounded, with a bullet lodged near his heart, Blake heads to the woods where he encounters a strange Indian named “Nobody” who prepares him for his journey into the spiritual world. Lauded by Greil Marcus as “the best movie of the end of the 20th century,” Dead Man is filmed in black and white and contains numerous references to Romantic poet William Blake and pop culture icons Lee Marvin and Lee Hazlewood. Written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, with Johnny Depp, Crispin Glover, Robert Mitchum (in his last onscreen appearance), and Iggy Pop in supporting roles and a soundtrack by Neil Young. To purchase tickets by phone or for more information please call 901.544.6208.Dead Man is part of the Brooks’ Armed + Dangerous Film Series, co-sponsored by Indie Memphis and presented in conjunction with the exhibition Armed + Dangerous: Art of the Arsenal, on view through March 11.
