Description:
Hailed by Roger Ebert as a “rather brilliant lump of coal for your stocking” and “a superior horror film,” Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a wildly humorous nightmare that’s rife with black humor – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality. On Christmas Eve, American archeologists exploring the world’s largest burial mound, located in northern Finland, have just unearthed the real Santa Claus, who is still alive in his sacred grave. When local children, reindeer, and supplies begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari (Onni Tommila) and his father Rauno (Jorma Tommila), a reindeer hunter by trade, trap the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the archeology dig. However, Santa's elves will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity in this parody on fairy tales andholiday legends. To purchase tickets by phone or for more information please call 901.544.6208. Co-presented by Indie Memphis. Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is part of the Brooks’ Armed + Dangerous Film Series, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Armed + Dangerous: Art of the Arsenal, on view through March 11.
