    Mozart’s comedic, yet dramatic opera premiered in Prague in 1787 and has been one of the most frequently performed ever since. In this production, staged at La Scala on December 7, 2011, the title role featuresbaritone Peter Mattei, who reprises his autumn 2011 Metropolitan Opera performance as the young, arrogant, and promiscuous nobleman who abuses andoutrages everyone around him until he encounters something he cannot outwit, avoid, or destroy. Anna Netrebko, the opera world’s “hottest female star,” portrays Donna Anna, the Commendatore’s daughter who avows vengeance on her father’s murderer, with Bryn Terfel as Leporello, Don Giovanni’s hapless servant.
