    Description:
Tahei and Matashichi, a pair of squabbling 16th-century Japanese peasants who are trying to escape feudal clan wars to return to their native Hayakawa, are drafted by General Rokurota Makabe (Toshiro Mifune), in his mission to rescue fugitiveprincess Yuki Akizuki and her family’s hidden gold. During their desperate trek though enemy territory, the general crosses path with an old rival, and theprincess discovers a new understanding of life. Akira Kurasawa’s first feature filmed in widescreen Tohoscope, The Hidden Fortress is acknowledged as the source for Star Wars, with the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 substituting for Tahei and Matashichi in the sci-fi update. The Hidden Fortress is part of the Brooks’ Armed + Dangerous Film Series, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Armed + Dangerous: Art of the Arsenal, on view through March 11.
