    Description:
A ronin, or masterless samurai, played by Toshiro Mifune, convinces two opposing crime lords to hire him as protection from the other in this period drama from acclaimed Japanese filmmaker AkiraKurasawa. Inspired by the western films of John Ford (The Searchers, Stagecoach), and the film noir classic The Glass Key, Yojimbo features numerous American film archetypes, including the heroic, yet introverted loner and the powerless small town denizens in need of a protector. Heralded as one of the top 100 greatest films of all time, Yojimbo was remade as the Sergio Leone spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars in 1964 and as the Prohibition-era thriller Last Man Standing in 1996. To purchase tickets by phone or for more information please call 901.544.6208. Yojimbo is part of the Brooks’ Armed + Dangerous Film Series, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Armed + Dangerous: Art of the Arsenal, on view through March 11. Co-presented by Indie Memphis.
