Join us for an evening of irresistible groove when David Dorfman Dance presents "Prophets of Funk," a dynamic engagement of movement driven by the popular—and populist—funk sounds of Sly and the Family Stone, an American rock, funk, and soul band from San Francisco that was essential in the development of soul, funk, and psychedelic music. Headed by singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone, and including several of his family members and friends, the band was the first major American rock band to have an “integrated, multi-gender” lineup.

Founded in 1985 and in residence at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut since 2007, David Dorfman Dance is considered one of the most influential American contemporary dance companies of the past two decades. David Dorfman has received four National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and was a 2005 recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship. The company has been honored with eight “Bessies,” the New York Dance and Performance Awards, as well as an American Choreographer’s Award.
