The Metal Museum is pleased to announce a new exhibition by Memphis artist, Thomasin Durgin. The exhibition will be located in the upstairs of our library building, which also houses our permanent collection.

Thomasin Durgin created one ring per day for the year 2010 and has been making rings weekly for 2011. Ranging from fashionable and wearable pieces to politically-charged conceptual works, the collection illustrates a broad range of metalworking skills and techniques.

Thomasin Durgin received her MFA in Fibers from the Memphis College of Art in 2001. A collector of modernist silver jewelry, she was inspired to begin working with metal in 2007. Her mixed metal jewelry is fabricated using traditional silversmithing techniques such as sawing, piercing, etching, soldering, and forging. Thomasin uses gems sparingly in her work, preferring the emphasis of form and space provided by different metals, textures, and patinas.
