Concert Film Series: THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH
July 29, 2011
Add Review/Comment
The night before Bob Dylan and Leon Russell play live at the Mud Island Amphitheater, see the two in The Concert for Bangladesh, which was organized by The Beatles' George Harrison along with this friend and mentor Ravi Shankar in 1971 to raise funds for UNICEF's relief efforts for victims of war and flooding in Bangladesh. Dylan performs “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” “It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry,” “Blowin’ In The Wind” and “Just Like A Woman” with Leon Russell on bass. Russell also performs a medley of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Young Blood.” Also featuring classic performance by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston and Ravi Shankar, The Concert for Bangladesh was the first benefit concert of its kind, bringing together an extraordinary assemblage of major artists collaborating for a common humanitarian cause, and setting the precedent that music could be used to serve a higher cause.
Presented by Indie Memphis and the Levitt Shell, the Concert Film Series is made possible through a First Tennessee Foundation Award for Innovation in the Arts and is sponsored by the Newcastle Brown Ale and the Memphis Flyer.
Films will begin at dusk (~8:33 pm on July 29). Admission is free and open to the public. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase beginning at 8 pm.
