Part of the The New Wave Revolution Film Series

Truffaut is drunk on the possibilities of cinema in his most playful work, a razor-sharp homage to the American gangster film genre. Loosely based on David Goodis’ 1956 novel Down There, the film’s plot centers around a washed-up classical pianist who, after his wife’s suicide, is hiding from his shattered life in a grungy Paris bar when familial ties and a pack of bad guys pull him back to reality.

    Director: François Truffaut
    France | 1960 | 81 minutes

The New Wave Revolution Film Series Like their Impressionist counterparts a century earlier, young French filmmakers turned the art world upside down with their rejection of classical cinematic form. From July through October, film connoisseurs James Vest, Shira Malkin, Laura Loth, and Robert Gordon will guide viewers through screenings of works by Godard, Truffaut, Varda and Chabrol. Co-presented by Indie Memphis.

The Brushmark Restaurant is open for brunch on Saturday from 11 am – 2:30 pm. To make reservations please call 901.544.6225 or make your reservation online.
