During his four decades as a filmmaker, Louis Malle forged a reputation as one of the world’s most versatile cinematic storytellers with such widely acclaimed masterpieces as Elevator to the Gallows and Au revoir les enfants. At the same time—and with less fanfare—Malle was creating a parallel body of work as a documentary filmmaker. The Brooks celebrates French Independence with screenings of his short documentary Vive le tour (19 minutes), an energetic evocation of the Tour de France, and Humain, trop humain (72 minutes), a meditative investigation of the inner workings of a French automotive plant.

    Director: Louis Malle
    France | 1962 & 1974 | 91 minutes
