    Bass Vocalist Jonathan Blanchard will perform a solo concert at Buckman on Saturday, August 20 at 8 p.m. Born in Memphis in 1976, Blanchard’s talent came to maturity while immersed in the city’s often raucous, inspirational, yet always divergent music and art scene. Blanchard credits growing up in undisputed home of Blues, Rock & Roll and Gospel for stoking his creative fires during his classical training.

    Possessing a voice comparable in depth and richness to the great Paul Robeson, Blanchard—in the spiritual tradition of an ancient Afrikan Griot—creates music that allows his deep, soulfully rich voice to blend naturally with his compelling dramatic instinct. He movingly conveys the poignant words and melodies of the Negro Spiritual, and his unique style offers great variety in the intimate Buckman venue.

    His modernized and approachable style of singing creates an uplifting song that holds the enthusiasts of popular, classical and religious song in sway. His ability to deftly rift through Jazz licks, while masterfully imitating the sounds emanating from a musical insrument.
