Celebrate Belgian cinema with THE BARONS
May 12, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Indie Memphis continues its six-year collaboration with the Memphis in May International Festival, presenting four contemporary Belgian films at three venues during the month of May as part of Memphis in May’s Salute to Belgium.
Presented on 35mm film, THE BARONS tells the story of, Hassan, Aziz and Mounir, three friends who lead a life of pleasant apathy in modern-day Brussels. Calling themselves 'The Barons,' they spend their days loafing around in unhurried torpor, bantering between each other and adhering to a curious theory which postulates that the fewer steps one takes in a lifetime, the richer and more satisfying one's interior life. When real life crashes unpleasantly into their dream world, the three are forced to deal with life, love and the future.
Admission: $7 each /$5 for Indie Memphis members. (Tickets will available at the venue beginning an hour before the screening.)
Other films in the series include THE MISFORTUNATES (2009) on 35mm film at the Studio on the Square on 5/4, THE OVER THE HILL BAND (2009) at the Brooks Museum of Art on 5/7 and 5/19, and RUMBA (2008) at the Evergreen Theatre on 5/23 as part of a soon-to-be-announced film series.
