The Dixon is pleased to announce Made in Dixon – an exhibition featuring the brilliant creations from participants in the Dixon’s many adult, children and student programs.
The walls of the Mallory and Wurtzburger galleries will be filled with more than 100 colorful paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures by Dixon art lovers of all ages.
“Made in Dixon is a window to the Dixon’s efforts to reach an engage our community, remarks the Dixon’s Curator of Education, Margarita Sandino. “The unique works of art presented reflect the diversity in our audiences and the commitment to inspire through the visual arts. Moreover, the exhibition is our way to thank all of the participants for making us who we are now.”
The works from our outreach programs include pieces from Art to Grow and our Memphis City Schools Adopted School Willow Oaks Elementary. From the many in-house programs we will display works from our after school art clubs Art Zone and Kaleidoscope Club, Mini Masters, Family Studio and Dixon Family Days. Our Adult artwork comes from painting, watercolor and drawing workshops as well as the inspiring art therapy programs offered to people with Alzheimer’s, Reflections Through Art, and developmentally challenged people that participate in Exceptional Art. Student work will include works from the Dixon Discoveries program, an onsite interactive visit for all grades students and from specials workshops.
The Dixon’s education programs are making a difference in the Memphis community. This show offers the opportunity to see the wonderful work we’re creating with artists across all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience.
