Voices of the South's new play, Wild Legacy, is the result of a prestigious commission by The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This original stage production pays homage to husband and wife, Olaus and Mardy Murie. Dedicated scientists, thinkers, writers, artists and visionaries, the Muries played a central role in the establishment of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, America's "Last Great Wilderness." Created to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Wild Legacy is a celebration of the Muries' life work and their love of wild places.
Packed with lyrical imagery, live soundscapes and innovative staging, this one-of-a-kind theatre experience is a dramatic retelling of Margaret Murie's acclaimed book, Two in the Far North. The piece is adapted and directed by Gloria Baxter in collaboration with Voices of the South. Baxter is joined by performers Jerre Dye, Alice Berry, Virginia Ralph, Geoffrey Wood, Michael Khanlarian and stage manager, Tiffany Hall McClung.
Wild Legacy opens with a two-week local preview at Evergreen Theatre before the official national premiere in Alaska this December. The show will then engage in a multi- city "50th Anniversary Tour" of the U.S. throughout 2011.
