The Metal Museum’s upcoming Tributaries artist is Miel-Margarita Paredes, whose work features animal imagery and traditional decorative motifs. The “Gnaw” series combines architectural rosette forms and grotesque masks with ornamental rodents. The “Standards” series incorporates the traditional use of the decorative grotesque and festive swags with examples of purebred dogs. Paredes plays with perceptions of beauty and breeding, degrees of wildness and domestication. Paredes earned an MFA from University of Wisconsin, Madison and is currently teaching at Oregon College of Art & Craft.
