MYSTERY TRAIN - Free Outdoor Screening
October 22, 2010
Add Review/Comment
As part of the 13th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival's celebration of the past, present and future of Memphis filmmaking, Indie Memphis will screen Jim Jarmusch’s indie classic under the stars at the Levitt Shell. Presented by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., MYSTERY TRAIN will screen from Criterion's new high-definition transfer on Friday, October 22 at 7 pm. The free screening is being co-presented by the Memphis Flyer and the Levitt Shell.
In MYSTERY TRAIN, filmed in Memphis in 1998, aloof teenage Japanese tourists, a frazzled Italian widow, and a disgruntled British immigrant all converge in the city of dreams. Made with its director's customary precision and wit, this triptych of stories pays playful tribute to the home of Stax Records, Sun Studio, Graceland, Carl Perkins, and, of course, the King, who presides over the film like a spirit. MYSTERY TRAIN is one of Jarmusch's very best movies, a boozy and beautiful pilgrimage to an iconic American ghost town and a paean to the music it gave the world.
After MYSTERY TRAIN, stick around for Indie Memphis' 30th anniversary screening of THE BLUES BROTHERS, presented by Elvis Mitchell and sponsored by the Memphis Music Foundation!
