The Center for Southern Folklore presents a rare double Brown Bag concert Thursday, May 6 as Yellow Dog Records celebrates 2010 Blues Music Award Nominations for two of their best: Fiona Boyes from noon to 12:45 p.m. followed by Eden Brent with Colin Linden from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Then, on Friday, May 7 at noon, Americana singer/songwriter Christine Conley makes her Brown Bag debut. As always, the Center provides the music and the audience either provides their lunch or purchases the goodies in the Folklore Store such as vegetarian greens, hot water cornbread or peach cobbler. The Folklore Store is located at 123 S. Main Street @ The Peabody Place Trolley Stop in the heart of downtown Memphis.

Fiona Boyes
Thursday, May 6 From Noon to 12:45 p.m.
Australian blues guitarist and singer Fiona Boyes is on a hot streak — brilliantly displayed on her current US release “Blues Woman” which has earned Boyes unprecedented international recognition and a nomination for the newly-renamed Koko Taylor Award as Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year. As Fiona puts it, “Coming to America and spending time where the blues began and developed, like the Delta, really gave me a sense of place about this music,” Boyes goes on to explain Blues Woman’s genesis. “But what’s been really wonderful and exciting is the opportunity to be mentored by some great American players — and to record with them.” There’s more info & reviews at http://fionaboyes.com. You can sample her music at http://music.yellowdogrecords.com/fiona.

Eden Brent with Colin Linden
Thursday, May 6 from 12:45 to 2:00 p.m.
“Little Boogaloo” Eden Brent has long been a favorite of Mid-Southerners for her sassy yet sophisticated blend of jazz and blues. While most know her for her soulful vocals, this year Eden is receiving well-deserved recognition for her phenomenal talents as a pianist, with her second consecutive Blues Music Award nomination as Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year. As a special treat for the Center’s Brown Bag crowd, Eden will preview songs from her upcoming album "Ain't Got No Troubles", recorded last month in New Orleans and slated for release this fall. She will be joined in her set by award-winning guitarist and producer Colin Linden, who produced "Ain't Got No Troubles.” To learn more about Eden Brent and sample her music go to http://www.edenbrent.com/bio.html and http://music.yellowdogrecords.com/eden,
