One of the Center for Southern Folklore’s all-time favorites The Daddy Mack Blues Band celebrates the release of their fourth and possibly best CD for the Inside Sounds label Bluesfinger Saturday, May 8 in the Folklore Store. Special guests for this CD release party will Billy Gibson and Matt Isbell. Showtime is 8:00 p.m. Admission is $8.00. The Folklore Store is located at 123 S. Main Street @ the Peabody Place Trolley Stop in the heart of downtown Memphis.

Daddy Mack’s guitar playing and vocals on "Bluesfinger" have never been better and the dozen songs on the album exemplify the reason the blues will never die. On “Great Recession Blues,” Mack sings “I can’t get ahead, not matter what I do,” which anyone who’s survived the economic downturn of the past few years can relate to. Like most great bluesmen, he doesn’t shy away from a humorous line or double entendre which makes songs like “Mailman,” “Soda Pop” or You got My Money” such wicked fun.

Daddy Mack and his crew – James & Harold Bonner and William Faulkner – are all seasoned veterans of the road so naturally travel images are woven into the storylines on “Blues Highway,” “Long Hard Road” and “Always Want You.” Covering Albert King’s “If You Got It,” Mack honors the man who inspired him to play electric guitar. When it comes to the ultimate test - slow blues - Mack is more than up to the challenge on “All Tore Up & Cryin’.” “Can’t Make It Without Your Love” pays homage to the soulful sounds of Stax in the 1970s. When it’s time to cut loose and just play their instruments, you can hear the fun the guys are having on the Bill Doggett instrumental “Honky Tonk” and the title track “Bluesfinger.” A reworking of the Stax classic “Soul Finger,” “Bluesfinger” features harmonica wizard Billy Gibson playing cat and mouse with Daddy Mack while the rest of the band keeps it tight and soulful.

The three previous Daddy Mack CDs – Fix It When I Can, Slow Ride and Bluestones all shot immediately to the top of the blues charts. Bluesfinger should easily do the same and the crowd at the Folklore Store on Saturday, May 8 will be among the first to hear what all the excitement is about.
