Once you have heard Sara Grey you will never forget her. Her vibrant voice, so well suited to American ballads and those of Ireland and Scotland, compels your attention. But it is not her voice alone that makes her unforgettable; her mastery of the five-string banjo, sometimes lively and spirited and sometimes haunting and lyrical, shows why she is regarded as one of the foremost exponents of old-time music. As well as singing and playing superbly, Sara is an accomplished storyteller and historian whose between-songs commentary provides a much-appreciated context for the songs. Appearing with Sara is her son, Kieron Means, whose guitar mastery is perfectly paired with his vocals. Of his understated style, Brian Peters has written,“Where so many young folk musicians of today dazzle us with their instrumental virtuosity or flatter our ears with their vocal purity, Means delivers a much rarer virtue: a true passion for the music he plays. He sings the songs because he loves them and, whilst his stage presence carries undoubted charisma, his work betrays no hint of artifice or pretension.” Together, Sara Grey and Kieron Means bridge the traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, and North America . . . so come prepared for a moving and memorable evening of traditional folk music and storytelling that will span Aberdeen and the reaches of County Clare across the waters to Canada and the Carolinas. http://www.maclurg.com/SaraGrey/index.htm
