The January 22, 2011 program introduces Travels in Time for Three by Chris Brubeck, co-commissioned by IRIS for the young string virtuosos (Nick Kendall, Zach DePue, Ranaan Meyer) who make up Time for Three. Brubeck promises that this new work will take IRIS’s audience from Baroque to Bayou, by way of country, gospel, and a few dueling violins. The evening’s travels continue through Benjamin Britten's joyous Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra; Aaron Copland's iconic Fanfare for the Common Man, which opened the first concert of IRIS’ first season; and the astonishing Seventh Symphony by Sibelius. The groundbreaking trio Time for Three transcends traditional categories, blending classical, country-western, gypsy and jazz idioms with an astonishing technical acuity. The trio started playing together as fellow students at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute for Music and have since become featured guest soloists with The Philadelphia Orchestra; the Indianapolis Symphony; the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; the San Francisco Symphony.
