Aaron Neville at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana Dirty Dozen Brass Band at B. B. King's in Memphis, Tennessee Poppy Tooker / Food and the Blues This week on BSC, we've got an amazing set from Aaron Neville from the 2009 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although Aaron Neville is often compared to singer Sam Cooke in terms of sheer vocal refinement, he has a voice and style uniquely his own. He is well known as part of the New Orleans sound of the Neville Brothers. Many of the first recordings of Neville, in the early and mid-'60s, were arranged, produced, and often written by the brilliant Allen Toussaint. His latest releases were in 2006 with Mojo Soul, a collection of some of his singles from the late '60s and early '70s with producers Marshall Sehorn and Allen Toussaint, and Bring It on Home...The Soul Classics, which featured guests Chaka Khan and Mavis Staples, among others. Also on this New Orleans themed program, we've got a set from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band live at B. B. King?s in Memphis, Tennessee. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band successfully mixes together R&B with the instrumentation of a New Orleans brass band. Featuring Kirk Joseph on sousaphone playing with the agility of an electric bassist, the group revitalized the brass band tradition, opening up the repertoire and inspiring some younger groups to imitate its boldness. Guest Host, Poppy Tooker, tells us about Food and The Blues.
