The toy shop is a magical, extraordinary place! With Christmas just around the corner, the master toymaker Gideon realizes he needs help to get all the baubles, contraptions, gizmos, and whirly-gigs made. When he searches for an apprentice, two youngsters come forth both wanting to work in his wondrous shop. Gideon takes them on, promising the job to the one that creates the best toy. Unfolding with rich storytelling, this cheery holiday play is a timeless classic sure to warm your heart.

      The Toymaker's Apprentice is not too big, not too small, it is just right for children four to eight and for adults fortunate enough to have a child to accompany. Irene Crist has directed this tale... Expand

      The Toymaker's Apprentice is not too big, not too small, it is just right for children four to eight and for adults fortunate enough to have a child to accompany. Irene Crist has directed this tale with a steady pace and a broad enough stroke to keep children engaged in the story. Ron Gordon portrays the Toymaker with a twinkle in his eye and kindness in his heart. A little nearsighted, but he tries to discern the attributes of each applicant as he teaches them the craft of toy making. Nicole Renee Hale and Stephen Andrew Parker play the two aspiring apprentices. They both have serious reasons for wanting the job and bring all the resources of children vying for a prize into play. Each uses cunning, lighthearted physical assertion, threats, and trickery to guide Mr. Gideon to his choice. The children will love the physicality of the contest as they embrace the lesson of fair play. The final task given to the apprentices is to build a doll and one of the treats of the evening is the life-like creation played by Liz Sharpe. Although there is a winner and a loser in this contest, as in most holiday stories, everyone lives happily ever after. The play runs 45 minutes in total, certainly the right playing time for younger children. Collapse
