August 22, 2009 (8PM)--Don McLean For this musical icon, instant international superstardom came with his 1971 release of American Pie, an impressionistic ballad inspired by the death of Buddy Holly. The composition was recently named "Song of the Century" and inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, while the renowned singer-songwriter was himself welcomed into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. With his other major hits "And I Love You So," "Vincent," and "Crying" he is most certainly admired as an enduring and legendary troubadour.
