Coward at his sophisticated best style that won him his reputation as the most successful purveyor of high comedy in the theatre. The plot centers on Julia and Jane, best friends , both happily married. But before their marriages both had brief affairs with Maurice, a great charmer, who is visiting London and wants to see them both. Happily, the husbands are gone for a day of golf and the ladies await Maurice's call. How they quarrel, make up, get drunk and quarrel again provide for some hilarious complications.

      Hooray for Theatre Memphis and a stunning production of the hilariously funny Noel Coward play, "Fallen Angels." The amazingly talented Jude Knight and Ann Sharp are the two married friends who find out that their old flame, Maurice, has come to London with hopes to see them. At first, they are horrified and plan to flee the city even though their stodgy husbands are gone on a golfing adventure. Of course plans change and they decide to dress up that evening and await the Frenchman's visit. They eat and drink and drink and drink some more. They review their memories, often disagreeing and laughing and getting drunker and drunker. Their antics are greatly increased by the maid, Saunders (played by the incredible Mary Buchignani), who knows something about everything and never fails to speak out. The set is a perfect upper class British abode thanks to resident scenic designer Christopher McCollum. The costumes almost defy description. The gowns of Jude and Ann are awesome and the husbands' golfing togs are remarkably English!! The husbands are ably played by Jason Spitzer and Chris Sterling as they grapple to understand how their wives would have been romantically linked to a Frenchman in their early lives. John Rone's direction, as always, is a double A plus and then some. This is a fast-paced comedy and great attention is given to keeping it very lively and well choreographed. Go to this show, especially if you are looking for a brilliant evening that will send you away to cloud nine. Collapse
