Funk/soul/worldbeat style saxophonist, vocalist, flautist, performer Hope Clayburn and her band Soul Scrimmage bring their high energy and eminently danceable music back to the Center For Southern Folklore Store, Saturday night, June 13 at 9:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00. The Folklore Store is located at 123 S. Main @ the Peabody Place Trolley Stop in the heart of downtown Memphis. A versatile and accomplished musician, Hope is as comfortable playing complex and soulful jazz in an intimate club as she is rocking out with the likes of Deep Banana Blackout. Her musical resume includes performances with a wide variety of rock, jazz and funk acts, including The Allman Bros, Karl Denson, Gov't Mule, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Bernie Worrell, The Tom Tom Club, Merle Saunders, David Murray, DJ Logic and many others. Having traveled the world, Hope returned to Memphis in 2002 to reconnect with her family and to establish some roots in the home of soul and blues. Since then, she's been one of Memphis' brightest musical stars, constantly in demand for recordings and live appearances.
