On May 9, 2009, Stax Music Academy will welcome a very special Guest Artist, jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut, to the SNAP! After School Spring Concert at Germantown Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Chestnut will join SMA student musicians as well as Artist-In-Residence and internationally renowned jazz/gospel saxophonist, Kirk Whalum. Chestnut has been named “the best jazz pianist of his time” by Time magazine and has performed with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Dave Brubeck, Anita Baker, and dozens of other acclaimed artists in addition to his own solo career. Whalum is one of the most sought-after saxophonists in the music industry, with eight Grammy nominations, two Stellar Awards, and many accolades for his humanitarian work.
