The festival highlights regional filmmaking from all corners of the country, while continuing its twelveyear

student films completed after December 2007, and which will not have been publicly screened in
Memphis prior to the 2009 festival dates, are eligible to submit.
Deadlines and Entry Fees
Earlybird Deadline: April 1 ($30 for features / $20 for shorts / $5 student discount)
Regular Deadline: May 15 ($40 for features / $30 for shorts / $5 student discount)
Late Deadline: June 15 ($50 for features / $40 for shorts / $5 student discount)
Local Production Waiver: For 2009, Indie Memphis has expanded on its entry fee waiver for local
filmmakers, allowing any filmmaker that shot at least 50% of their film in Memphis or Shelby County,
Tennessee to take a waiver on their first submission to the festival.

Last year, former New York Times film critic & renown interviewer Elvis Mitchell (KCRW's "The
Treatment," TCM's "Under the Influence") joined the festival as part of the Features Jury and hosted
conversations with filmmaker Craig Brewer ("Hustle & Flow," "$5 Cover") and actor Giancarlo
Esposito ("Do The Right Thing," "Homicide: Life On The Streets"), who walked away with the inaugural
Southern Soul of Independent Film award for his directorial debut, "Gospel Hill," which made its Regional
Premiere at the festival. In 2007, indie filmmaking legends John Sayles and Maggie Renzi opened the
festival's 10th year with a special screening of "Honeydripper" with frequent Sayles collaborator Angela
Bassett in attendance. Other past attendees and special guests have included Ira Sachs ("Forty Shades of
Blue," "Married Life"), Peter Gilbert ("Hoop Dreams," "At The Death House Door"); Joey Lauren
Adams ("Come Early Morning"); Albert Maysles ("Grey Gardens," "Gimme Shelter") and Bob
Mondello (National Public Radio).
