Introduction to Sand Casting

Bob Rogers, Instructor February 6-7, 2010 Tuition: $250 (Museum Members: $220) Lab Fee: $ 75 This class is designed to give students a basic knowledge of the tools and techniques used to produce bronze and aluminum castings from molten metal poured into sand molds. The workshop will consist of lecture, demonstration and hands-on-activities. Each student will make at least two molds and pour one casting in aluminum. Students may choose simple patterns supplied in class, but are highly encouraged to bring something of their own design. Size and weight of casting is limited and design considerations are important, so please consult with Metal Museum foundry staff or Bob Rogers at bobr58@bellsouth.net or 901.278.7826 regarding personal castings. Students must provide their own safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves. Limit 8 per session Saturday and Sunday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
