Close to Home complements the Memphis World Exhibit at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and is a celebration of Memphis history. Local African-American folk artists have been selected from the Memphis collections of John Jerit, Craig Wiener, Robert Hollingsworth, Jeff and Diane Nesin, Marina Pacini and David McCarthy and Kevin and Sarah Adams. These works, springing from our own community, are a profound witness to the daily life of these self-taught artists. A reception is Friday, January 23 from 6-8 pm with a gallery talk by University of Memphis Professor Dr. Carol Crown at 5:30 pm. The exhibition, gallery talk and reception are free. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday from noon to 4:00 pm. For more information call 272-5100.
