Memphis, Tennessee - The Metal Museum is pleased to present Tributaries IV: Jillian Moore.
At once weathered and refined, Jillian Moore's anthropomorphic forms exhibit a kind of body language that is specific to their strange breed. Through the process of fabricating and then manually eroding and embellishing copper elements, and then combining these elements with fiberglass, wood, and foam, Moore is able to produce a range of forms and finishes as varied as the personalities they express. Careful attention to detail is merged with an acceptance of the incidental and the unexpected to create what the artist calls "fruiting bodies, invertebrates, buffoons" Of her work, the artist says "Recently, I've been combining forms that I find appealing based on my interests in biology. I've been creating jewelry forms that become extensions of the body-invented symbiotic organisms. I'm also interested in small sculptural forms that are becoming more abstractly figural as they evolve. I enjoy what is both repellent and seductive.? About the Artist: In 2004 Moore received her BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry from Western Illinois University and in 2007 she went on to receive her MA in jewelry and metal arts from the University of Iowa. Her work has been featured in both national and international group exhibitions and featured in several exhibition catalogs. Tributaries is her first solo exhibition. The Tributaries series began in February of 2008 as a way for the Metal Museum to support emerging and mid-career metal artists and expose their work to a wider audience. In its focus on identifying and supporting the most promising young artists, the Tributaries series represents a key aspect of the Metal Museum's commitment to the promotion of fine metalwork. In less than one year's time this series has established itself as an important showcase for exciting, innovative work in the metal arts field. Founded in 1976, the National Ornamental Metal Museum is the only Museum in the Americas dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the art and craft of fine metalwork. Located at 374 Metal Museum Drive, the Museum is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10 am - 5 pm and Sunday, noon - 5 pm. For more information, call 901-774-6380 or visit www.metalmuseum.org.
