WEVL FM 89.9 Fall Concert featuring the acclaimed Alejandro Escovedo--one of the consummate songwriters and live performers of our time. Few contemporary artists inspire the degree of rapturous critical praise as Alejandro Escovedo. He has been hailed as a poet, as a storyteller, and as one of the most important musicians of the last quarter-century. Escovedo blends folk, rock, blues and classically influenced music into a boundary-defying style that has won him a devoted following all over the world. His music sums up all that he has heard, from Mexican boleros to punk, and it embraces both the primal and the orchestral. Escovedo's music has been widely lauded by the media, appearing in numerous high profile publications including Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, The New York Times, USA Today, Paste, Harp and Entertainment Weekly. He has performed at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Carnegie Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music, Barns of Wolf Trap, and numerous other venues and music festivals. His TV appearances include many episodes of Austin City Limits, and most recently, Late Night With Conan O'Brien, the Today Show, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Escovedo has recorded nine albums under his own name. These albums fit no ready-made genre and are profoundly and complexly moving. His new album, "Real Animal," has received near universal acclaim since its debut on the Billboard Top 200 chart in June and was featured in TIME Magazine's "Five Things You Should Know About. The Americana Music Association gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award for Performing, and he was named "Artist of the Decade" by No Depression magazine. The Satin Peaches from Detroit will open the show.
