Introduction to Sand Casting (Part 2) will focus on metal casting, which is a process of building sand molds for the purpose of pouring molten metal into an open cavity to make a solid form. The student will be introduced to the tools and techniques involved with this process and each student will make at least two sand molds - one mold to be poured with molten bronze and the other to be poured with aluminum. The course instructor will be Durant Thompson who is head of the sculpture area in the art department of the University of Mississippi. Tuition will be $250 with a lab fee of $75. Students must provide their own safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves.
