Add Review/CommentWhen many mothers of generations past were flustered with the pains of civil unrest or heartbreak, they refused to let agony have the last word; they birthed lyrics and melody as their language for talking back. This Mother's Day weekend, Rebirth of Soul will honor queens in soul that vocalized their woes in tune by paying tribute to Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and Chaka Khan through song, dance, and theatrics.

About ArtsMemphis
Known around the world for its blues and rock and roll, Memphis has a recognizable special vibe. ArtsMemphis exists to nurture this unique character and to magnify the city’s creative voice. We are a 45-year-old arts funding organization (the sixth largest in the United States), which provides annual operating and project support to 23 arts groups and administers some 150 additional grants on a year to year basis. The ArtsMemphis tagline is “your support matters” and indeed it does. As major fundraisers, grant-makers and arts promoters in the city, ArtsMemphis contributed more than $4 million to the Memphis arts community in 2007, and it is a fact that 95 cents of every dollar raised in our annual campaign is directed to our funded organizations. ArtsMemphis builds partnerships among artists, arts groups, donors, educators and culture lovers throughout the city and region. Recognizing that a lively arts scene has a major economic impact and is essential to the quality of life in Memphis, ArtsMemphis is encouraging the entire community to interact with the arts like never before. The current enhanced website with its expanded calendar of events has been introduced with that goal in mind.
