Sharing and participating in various cultural experiences plays a critical role in creating a harmonious living environment and enhancing mutual understanding among ethnic groups. The upcoming 2008 Chinese New Year Festival is a program that addresses such an issue. For the sixth consecutive year, the Memphis Chinese community is excited to share and celebrate Chinese values and traditions with Memphians. In each of the last four years, the Festival has attracted more than 2,000 people from the Shelby county, West Memphis, and Northern Mississippi region. The Festival will feature Chinese Art Exhibit, live music and dance performances. In addition to local performers, we have invited some Chinese professional artists from North America. The coming Chinese New Year is the Year of Rat. In Chinese tradition, the Chinese New Year is a very special holiday for family reunions, thanksgiving, and well-wishing. It is the most significant celebration for Chinese people around the world. We wish you peace and prosperity in the Year of Rat.
