SUMMARY:Jimmy Robinson
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Jimmy Robinson=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsmemphis.org/event/detail/33989=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2010-04-03=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2010-04-03=0D=0A=0D=0AThroughout his long career with rock-fusion band Woodenhead and guitar collective Twangorama, the electric guitar has served as Jimmy Robinson's main instrument. But during a monthlong Hurricane Katrina evacuation to Memphis, he rediscovered the acoustic guitar, the instrument at the heart of his classical music studies at Loyola University. That period of rediscovery led to Robinson's first acoustic solo album, 'Vibrating Strings.' He'll showcase much of it at Otherlands on April 3. On 'Vibrating Strings, ' Robinson's playing is richly lyrical. A Spanish-style detour called 'Pepi' and 'Brian O'Neal, ' an elegy for the late Bonerama trombonist, are especially sumptuous. Another highlight is his acoustic reimagining of Led Zeppelin's ageless 'Kashmir.' Robinson has written half the songs on 'Vibrating Strings, ' in a voice reminiscent of Richard Thompson and Fairport Convention's Sandy Denny. Robinson continues to perform with Twangorama and Woodenhead, and, luckily for us, increasingly, he performs solo.=0D=0A= =0D=0A=www.jimmyrobinsonmusic.com=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:8 - 10:30 P.M.
