SUMMARY:Rugged Crosses
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Event Name: Rugged Crosses=0D=0AEvent Url: http://www.artsmemphis.org/event/detail/28921=0D=0AEvent Date Begin: 2008-06-01=0D=0AEvent Date End: 2008-07-06=0D=0A=0D=0AFor ten years, Kara Gentry's artist gifts slept. Then in March 2007, Kara was driven by a vivid dream and a renewed passion to begin painting again. Her abstract crosses have their own unique texture and creative style. The Stirring gallery is proud to display ten paintings from her 'Rugged Crosses' series. Twelve to Three was created live on stage at the Stirring in April while Kara was the guest artist. Kara lives in Fayette County, TN with her husband Don and their three children. In addition to painting, Kara works part time as a teacher of one year olds at Hope Presbyterian Preschool. Kara is on a creative and spiritual journey, taking her to a place of self-discovery. Learning more about herself has enabled her to realize the impact of God's grace in her life. This has shown her how she can use her gift to help others. Also on display is our collection of works by local artists: Kathy Browning, Alberto Cabrera, Cara Laughlin, Glory Hamilton, Gail Wilkins, and Con Van Zandt.=0D=0A=More than 35 original paintings are on display, many of which were also created during the Stirring.=0D=0A=0D=0AStart time:The gallery is open 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Viewers are invited to attend the Stirring worship service at 5:30 p.m. to see the guest artist for June, Gail Wilkins, as she creates original artwork during the service. The Stirring Art Gallery also can be viewed during Hope Church's regular hours.
