DESCRIPTION:Event Name: Jimmy Robinson\nEvent Url: http://www.artsmemphis.o
 rg/event/detail/33989/Jimmy_Robinson\nEvent Date Begin: 2010-04-03\nEvent
Date End: 2010-04-03\n\nThroughout his long career with rock-fusion band W
oodenhead and guitar collective Twangorama\, the electric guitar has serve
d as Jimmy Robinson's main instrument. But during a monthlong Hurricane Ka
trina evacuation to Memphis\, he rediscovered the acoustic guitar\, the in
strument at the heart of his classical music studies at Loyola University.
That period of rediscovery led to Robinson's first acoustic solo album\,
'Vibrating Strings.' He'll showcase much of it at Otherlands on April 3.
On 'Vibrating Strings\, ' Robinson's playing is richly lyrical. A Spanis
h-style detour called 'Pepi' and 'Brian O'Neal\, ' an elegy for the late B
onerama trombonist\, are especially sumptuous. Another highlight is his ac
oustic reimagining of Led Zeppelin's ageless 'Kashmir.' Robinson has writ
ten half the songs on 'Vibrating Strings\, ' in a voice reminiscent of Ric
hard Thompson and Fairport Convention's Sandy Denny. Robinson continues
to perform with Twangorama and Woodenhead\, and\, luckily for us\, incre
 asingly\, he performs solo.\n \nwww.jimmyrobinsonmusic.com\n\nStart time:
