 l Seminary is pleased to announce Nikki Giovanni as the featured speaker o
 f the Dr. Barbara A. Holmes Lectures in African American Studies in celebr
 ation of Black History Month.   Giovanni\, a native Tennessean\, is a worl
 d-renowned poet\, writer\, commentator\, activist and educator.  One of th
 e most widely-read American poets\, she prides herself on being an African
  American\, a daughter\, a mother\, and English professor.  Giovanni remai
 ns as determined and committed as ever to the fight for civil rights and e
 quality.  Always insisting on presenting the truth as she sees it\, she ha
 s maintained a prominent place as a strong voice of the African American c
 ommunity.  Her focus is on the well-being of individuals and their communi
 ty\, specifically on the power one has to make a difference in oneself\, a
 nd thus\, in the lives of others.   The evening will also include music by
  eight-time grammy nominee Kirk Whalum and world-renowned recording artist
  John Kilzer.\nThe Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church Chamber Choir wi
 ll provide music starting at 6:30 p.m.\n\nStart time: 7:00 p.m.
